If you’re new to tai chi, you might be wondering what to expect during your first tai chi class. A tai chi instructor at Scott Wagner Integrated Medicine will begin the class with a simple warm-up where your shoulders, head, and entire body are slowly loosened up. Special emphasis is placed throughout the class on your breath, keeping you in the moment while still being aware of your surroundings. Some classes may also include a few minutes of gentle breath work to bring your focus back to the present moment and relax the mind. The instructor will then lead you through a series of tai chi movements that are circular in nature. Your muscles during the entire class will always be relaxed and never tensed, while your joints are never overextended or completely bent.
